Afloat Essential Waterbed Sizes

The Afloat Essential waterbed comes in Queen, Standard Eastern King, Dual Eastern King, Standard California King, and Dual California King sizes. The ancient Greeks discovered that it takes more water to float more weight. Our Queen provides complete flotation comfort and support up to 300 pounds, while the King provides complete flotation comfort and support up to 400 pounds of combined sleeper weight. A Queen = 59” W x 79” L, Eastern King = 75” W x 79” Land a CA King = 71” W x 83” L.

Afloat Essential Waterbed Options

Beyond overall size, the choice of Standard or Dual in the King size Afloat Essential waterbed gives you the power to control your individual sleep zone. While every Afloat mattress includes a temperature control system, the Dual versions include two control systems and isolated mattresses for personalized comfort. The thermal insulator separates the mattresses so your side of the bed remains uniquely yours.

Additional options include standard firmness or a memory foam layer for an even firmer experience. You can also opt for one of our Space Saver foundations in either 14-inch or 16-inch heights, which give you storage space underneath the bed. Afloat offers FREE shipping to the 48 contiguous United States (not including Alaska and Hawaii). There will be an extra charge for shipping outside this area. After you purchase an Afloat product one of our customer service representatives will contact you to provide the additional shipping costs. What are the different bed dimensions?
- Standard (Eastern) King = approx. 76” W x 80’ L
- California (Western) King = approx. 72” W x 84” L
- Queen = approx. 60” W x 80” L
How much do the filled beds weigh?

A king size Afloat with the traditional foundation or the Space Saver platform and two averaged sized adults together weighs about 1800 pounds. This weight is spread over a large area. The “floor loading” or “weight per square foot” is well within building code requirements. The weight is a lot like having 8 people sitting at a dining room table. A queen weighs 15% to 20% less than a king.
What sheets do I need for my Afloat waterbed?

Great news, no special sheets are required; all you need are standard sheets in the appropriate size.
Are the beds pet friendly?

The biggest problem will be trying to get your dog or cat to stay off Afloat, because cats and dogs love the soft, warm surface. Assuming your cat is not a mountain lion or Bengal tiger, claws are not a problem. Just keep Afloat covered with a mattress pad, sheets, and a comforter or bedspread. Even without bed linens a properly-filled Afloat is puncture-resistant because the vinyl surface is loose…not under surface tension. Another plus: if your pet has an “accident” the Afloat stretch-knit fabric surface is removable and machine-washable, and the vinyl water mattress surface is easy to clean. With any other type of bed, a pet “accident” can be a permanent problem.

I love my Afloat Essential Waterbed. My hubby was able to build the base with 1 quick trip to Home Depot and it took less than 10 minutes to cut the wood. The instructions are easy to follow and the quality of sleep is unmatched. I don not know how we have been living without this bed for so long. We are certainly enjoying a better nights sleep!
